Who is Smart Loan Aid?

Smart Loan Aid helps student loan borrowers understand their financial profile and match them with options and providers to help accomplish their individual goals. Our role is to analyze your needs and provide you with the tools and resources to effectively manage your student loan repayment options.

Is Smart Loan Aid affiliated with the Department of Education?

No. Smart Loan Aid is a privately owned financial technology advisory service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with the U.S. Department of Education or any government agency.

What does Smart Loan Aid actually do?

We match you with financial technology platforms that assist you in accomplishing your goals when it comes to federal student loan repayment options. Many of our clients are seeking lower payments, refinance options, and other options that we can help explore and match them with the best provider to assist them.

Do you work with private student loans?

We have trusted partners that work with both federal and private student loan borrowers!

Do you negotiate or settle student loans?

No. Federal student loans cannot be negotiated or settled the same way as other debts. We do not negotiate debt, settle debt, or handle collections. We provide guidance on federally-available repayment programs and match you with vetted partners that can help you accomplish your goals.

Why is student loan guidance necessary?

Student loan repayment options are complex and constantly changing. We, along with our referral partners, bring clarity to an often confusing landscape and help create a path forward through practical solutions and referral partners.

Do you guarantee your services?

While we're very confident in the solutions we provide and the partners we match you with, we cannot provide a guarantee when it comes to decisions made on your student loans as the final decision makers are your loan servicer, bank, or Department of Education.

Can you help me get student loan forgiveness?

Our team can educate you on available programs including income driven plans, public service loan forgiveness, disability discharge and other options. Once you decide on the best course for you, we can direct you to the right partner to help you accomplish your goals!

Do I have to pay for help with my student loans?

While we offer a convenient approach to managing your student loans, all Department of Education programs are accessible through your loan servicer or the Department of Education directly free of charge. Our clients choose to use our service for peace of mind knowing they've been matched with the right resources to help accomplish their financial goals.

Do you work with my loan servicer on my behalf?

No, while our team can provide you with education and trusted third party resources, we do not work with your loan servicer directly. In most cases, we will match you with a trusted partner for application assistance or default resolution services. Our goal is to find you a solution and a vetted partner that can do the heavy lifting for you!

Do you use my FSA ID or servicer login to view my loans?

No, our team will never request your FSA ID or servicer login information.

Do you help with defaulted student loans?

Yes! We've partnered with the best in the industry to help you navigate the challenges of defaulted loans and even have partners that can help resolve pending or active wage garnishments.
